Heritage Community Initiatives received the Energy Partnership Grant from the Department of Labor in January 2010. To date, 113 un- and under-employed residents of the Upper Mon Valley Region have graduated from the MOVE IT program through a total of seven sessions. Our first training session began class on June 14, 2010 with our last class, session seven, graduating on April 8, 2011. We are currently focused on career counseling, job placement, additional certification training, continuing education, and employee/employer monitoring. Funding for the DOL grant ends January 2012. Additional funds are currently being sought to continue building sustainable families through our job training program.
Heritage Community Initiatives received a second grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to train participants in green jobs for the assessment and remediation of Brownfield sites. Like the Department of Labor grant, we use our 5-week training program to fit the needs of this grant. We will We will train a total of 50 participants. Unlike the DOL grant we are targeting graduating high school seniors, ages 18 - 21. Additionally, we are partnering with the Community College of Allegheny County, the Fire Academy, and Professional Training Associates over the course of the 5-week program.

Whether you are planning to pursue a college degree, additional training, or seeking employment, our program benefits ALL interested in learning about the environment. The training is unpaid; however, certifications and class instruction will be obtained to help build your resume. The certifications included in this training are: OSHA 30hr Construction Safety and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) 40hr. Training consists of hands-on, in and out of the classroom and interactive field trips.
